What happens after a new-age Vancouver-bound vegetarian gal finally starts to detox with a handsome Guelph-based spiritually-minded vegan? The gal attends a lecture by Dr. Brian Clement on living and super foods, and drags the man to the Whole Life Expo in Toronto to conclude a $1000 weekend of health and well-bring.

***

Dr. Brian Clement has been carrying on the work of Dr. Ann Wigmore – the importance of raw and living foods, wheatgrass, algae, and sprouts. I found his talk to be very inspiring, albeit somewhat harsh at times. Going to a natural health show was an excellent follow-up and we went with a fistful of dollars and some lofty goals. Originally, I had the idea in mind of paying for a succession of body-work treatments, but instead, I exercised my consumerism and picked up a wheatgrass sprouting kit, a juicer, and a plethora of treats. My partner bought the best gift a lady could ever hope to receive: a Vita-Mix blender. Now there are no excuses!

***

I lied. I do have one final excuse: the lack of a food dehydrator…
